As mentioned in Chapter 12 of the book, Holding Grief: A Love Letter from a Recovering Death Denier, Jerry passed on the tradition of making homemade vanilla ice cream for every birthday and 4th of July. Homemade ice cream is SO EASY, in particular with an electric ice cream maker.
Here is the recipe.
Cook Time: ~45 minutes to 1 hour (depending upon the Ice Cream Mixer)
Prep Time: 15 minutes
INGREDIENTS
For the Ice Cream:
3 Whole Eggs
1 1/3 cup White Sugar
2 cups Heavy Cream
2 teaspoons Vanilla
Ingredients to utilize with the equipment:
2-3 Cups Ice Cream Salt
Several Pounds of Ice
Equipment: Ice Cream Mixer/Freezer, electric or the old-fashioned hand crank.
DIRECTIONS
Mix together all ingredients for 4 minutes before adding to the ice cream mixer/freezer.
Pour ingredients into the mixer.
Fill equipment basin with ice and salt;
Run mixture until the ice cream is the consistency desired. Continue to refresh the ice and salt, as needed.
Depending upon the mixture it may take approximately 45 minutes, give or take.
Remove beater and serve immediately.
Freeze leftovers.
